Doha seems to have left behind its name as a boring city. With more cranes than buildings, the new skyline changes rapidly - developing almost as you watch.

The most obvious thing to do when in Doha, is walk the Corniche, along the waterfront of Doha Bay. Best times are early morning or evening, when the climate is pleasant; the Corniche is most crowded in the early evening.

Once a famous pearl fishing town, Al Khor now has a busy port where fishermen gather to offload their catch, repair their nets, prepare their boats, and set off for their next fishing trip.

You can find a true desert a mere hour's drive from the capital Doha. Here, you can enjoy the desert in any way you like: driving, camel riding, sand-boarding, or just sitting atop a sand dune and enjoying the view.

Finding the old fort was one of the challenges, but once located, the majestic and apparently complex consisting of a little visited towers and small mosque proved photogenic in the early morning sun.
